Scholarship Day 2002
(Further details for Round 2 applicants)
The Scholarship written papers and interviews will be held at the College on
Saturday 9 February 2002. Candidates are asked to arrive at the College by 0945 hrs. It may be possible to arrange accommodation for the night of Friday 8 February for any candidate unable to travel to Oxford on the Saturday morning. Please let us know in advance if you would like us to arrange accommodation for you.
Parents or guardians are expected to accompany candidates, if possible, and will meet the Director of Finance and Administration or another senior member of staff during the course of the day for financial discussions.
Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day for candidates and those accompanying them. Everyone is invited to lunch in the College dining room.
For candidates, the day will include three elements: a written paper, individual interviews, and group exercises with other candidates. We aim to make the day as informal and enjoyable as possible, considering the nature of the occasion.
Candidates will be divided into two groups. Group A will sit the examination at 1030 hrs and will be interviewed by the Principal and others during the afternoon. Group B will attend interviews in the morning and sit the examination at 1400 hrs. Group exercises will be timetabled around the other activities.
The written paper will include mathematics reasoning tests and a passage for comprehension. Calculators may be used. No specific preparation is required for the paper. The interviews will be informal and students will be encouraged to talk about their interests, both academic and otherwise, as well as their reasons for wishing to take the IB at St. Clare's. Group exercises will give the opportunity for candidates to demonstrate other skills and characteristics.
There will be ample opportunity to see around the College and to talk to present students. Candidates will be free to leave by 1600 hrs.
