In July and
August 2003, St. Clare's, Oxford is once again offering IB short
courses for students about to start the IB Diploma, and or students
between the first and second years of their courses. The nature
of the programme, involving experienced, friendly teachers, high
quality facilities and resources, as well as full board accommodation
and a full activity programme, all in a relaxed environment where
we can provide 24 hour supervision without overly restricting the
students, is reflected in the costs and fees for the courses. They
are excellent courses, and we are proud of that quality, but we
recognise that this doesn't make them cheap.
We would like
to make it possible for students from a wide variety of backgrounds
to participate in these courses. We are therefore offering a programme
of scholarships to students who might normally not be able to afford
to join such a programme (up to the equivalent of three full awards,
though these may be awarded as part awards, depending on the quality
of the applications received). The scholarships would extend to
the course costs and to St.Clare's accommodation only, but not to
travel costs or hotel accommodation.
How to Apply
If any of your students would be interested to apply for these
scholarships, which may range from covering 50% of the course and
accommodation costs to 100% of the costs, please encourage them
to contact us for an IB Summer
Institute application form. This can be obtained by email,
or downloaded here. The deadline
for scholarship applications is given below.
The application should be accompanied by a covering
letter from the student's IB Course Director to confirm that the
student is in need of this sort of support and would be a worthy
candidate for a scholarship.
Application
forms should also be accompanied by a short
statement from the student setting out why they think that they
would be a good choice for the award of a scholarship. This could
refer to the student's commitment to the ideals of the IB, or to
international education, or to other criteria which they feel are
more relevant to them personally, but should be a clear statement
in no more than 300 words, which will help our panel to decide on
the best candidates for the scholarships.
