What are the courses like at St. Clare's?
You are taught in small groups; normally no more than 12 people. For most courses, classes are held every morning, Monday to Friday, and on three afternoons each week. Out-of-class assignments are usually given. You normally have one main trainer with other trainers conducting sessions in their specialist areas. Visiting speakers may also give seminars. You will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon successful completion of your course.
Some of our teachers' courses qualify for Comenius funding. This funding helps you with course costs. Applications should be made through your national office.
Most courses are held at our Bardwell Road Centre, which is situated in the leafy suburb of north Oxford, only a short bus ride or walk from the city centre. Accommodation is nearby and there are dining facilities on site, where you can mix with fellow teachers and students from all over the world, getting to know each other, exchanging ideas and broadening cultural perspectives.

Who will be teaching me?
The success of any course depends upon the quality of teaching and the teacher. We ensure that our carefully selected team of trainers on each course includes practising teachers and specialist teacher trainers. We think it is important for you to benefit from current experience and the best in theoretical expertise.
Trainers also teach on St. Clare's other academic courses thus keeping their practical skills up to date as well as keeping abreast with new developments in their particular field. The specialists provide extra theoretical expertise. Many of our trainers are, or have been Directors of Studies, Assistant Directors of Studies and/or published authors.

Where will I stay?
Most participants stay in our own residences, situated close to the main teaching buildings. You are accommodated in comfortable single or twin study bedrooms. Please note that St. Clare's operates a strict no smoking policy in all of its buildings and residences.
The dining room offers hot and cold meals and a full choice of vegetarian food. Our chefs cater for a range of international tastes.

And after classes?
St. Clare's offers a wide variety of events and excursions. These include theatre visits, concerts, visits to country pubs, discos, parties and sports. And of course, you will wish to take full advantage of Oxford.

Oxford
Oxford offers everything you might expect from a world renowned university city - museums, theatres, beautiful buildings. But while you are here you may also like to visit the pub where Tolkein and CS Lewis met regularly, or listen to concerts in the room where Mozart, Haydn and Handel performed. You can punt along Oxford's beautiful rivers, the Cherwell and the Thames, and enjoy the typically English countryside just on the doorstep. Oxford also offers a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, discos and bars, and excellent shopping. But, if all this isn't enough for you, don't forget London, which is only an hour away.
