Dates & fees for University Foundation Course
Admission depends on the following factors for all students:
to apply for the University Foundation Course, you need to:
• be at least 18 years old
• have a competent level of English
• have completed secondary schooling in your own country
• wish to go on to study at a British University

How to apply

Academic year dates 2007 / 2008
St. Clare's University Foundation Course runs for a full academic year from end August / beginning September to mid June. It is made up of a two-semester system. The first semester runs from early September to mid-December, with a one-week mid-semester break. The second semester runs from early January to mid-June, with a two-week break around Easter, and a long weekend in February.
Entry to the course is only once a year, at the start of the academic year which is the end of August / beginning of September.
Autumn Semester 2007
Arrival Day Saturday 1 September
Classes start Monday 2 September
Mid-semester break Monday 22 October - Friday 26 October
Semester end Saturday 15 December
Spring Semester 2008

Accommodation Fees 2007

The Accommodation fees are charged in two parts - Autumn Semester 2007 and Spring Semster 2008.  Accommodation fees for the academic year 2007 / 2008 will be published in June 2007.

Additional charges
Optional college weekend trips / theatre visits / excursions, etc.
Day excursions at weekends - £20 to £25 (though some are free of charge)
Theatre tickets and transport - £10 to £30
Weekend trip with overnight stay (2 nights) - £70 to £300

Some course elements may incur additional cost:
Examination fees
Fees for the following examinations are currently between approximately £30- £150. Please refer to Senior Courses Office for details. Entry and fees are due about 3 months before the exam date.
Cambridge examinations
CAE Certificate in Advanced English
CPE Certificate of Proficiency in English
Other examinations
IELTS (for further study in the UK)

Additional sports and other activities
Allow - £10 to £15 per week
Stationery / book purchase (loan of books is included in fees)

General spending money
Allow around - £60 per week
Remember, key deposit, police registration (for students from countries outside the EU) and book purchase all need to be paid for in the first week

Methods of payment
1. You can pay by credit or debit card - we accept the following cards Visa Mastercard Delta Switch / Maestro

If you have paid your deposit by credit or debit card, then you may also pay the balance of fees using the same credit or debit card, 3 weeks before arrival. With your permission we will debit your card for the balance of fees at the right time. Note: Please note a surcharge of 2% will be made for credit card payments above £1000 (one thousand pounds).

Alternative methods of payment
2. If you do not have a credit or debit card you may choose to pay by bank transfer*
Payments by bank transfer will only be accepted for courses booked more than 3 weeks before the start of the course.

How to apply

In order to apply for this course you must be at least 18 years old. You must also be qualified for entry to university in your own country. Your level of English must be at least the level of Cambridge First Certificate (FCE), IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 197 (computer score) or 530 (paper score).
