IB facilities
Academic Staff

  • About 20 full-time and 25 part-time subject teachers are engaged on pre-university programmes
  • Teachers are selected for their academic qualifications and expertise, successful teaching experience and ability to relate to our international student community.
  • Many are very experienced teachers of the IB, at St. Clare's or elsewhere.
  • Teachers include IB examiners and workshop leaders
  • Class sizes are small. Teacher : student ratio is about 1:9

Facilities
IB courses are based at our campus 139 Banbury Road, Oxford. The campus comprises 9 large houses and purpose-built additions, located in a very pleasant, leafy suburb of Oxford.(A further 12 houses provide residential accommodation only.

The campus includes:

  • Central College administration
  • Classrooms in languages, social studies, maths, theatre arts
  • Visual arts studio
  • Music rooms
  • Science laboratories
  • Computer rooms for teaching and general student use, including e-mail and Internet access
  • Library, housing College's 35,000 books, periodicals, exam papers, etc
  • Central hall, used for meetings, lectures, social events
  • Activities Department office
  • Dining Room
  • Sugar House café / bar
  • Residential accommodation

Library
Located in Anne Dreydel House and named after the College's co-founder, the Library provides outstanding study facilities for the College. It houses about 35,000 books, videos, DVDs, and audio-cassettes. It also subscribes to over 50 national and international periodicals and newspapers and there is a language centre for self-study. There are networked computers with internet access and there is also wireless access.
The Library is open every day (including most evenings) apart from Easter weekend and the Christmas to New Year holiday. There are two professionally qualified librarians on the staff.
