Last month, the first year IB Theatre Arts students were involved in their first production: Federico Garcia Lorca's claustrophobic and passion-filled tragedy The House of Bernarda Alba. The play, along with Blood Wedding and Yerma, forms a trilogy expressing what Lorca saw as the tragic life of Spanish women. It was Lorca's last play, written the year he was killed at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The House of Bemarda Alba raises some serious questions concerning the role of women in a patriarchal society and provided a wonderful opportunity for St. Clare's students to show off their superb acting skills.
