Porth yr Ogof, Pen y Fan and Cribyn

When the autumn half term break arrives it also means the seven day CAS Outdoor Educational trip to Wales.

From the moment the students arrive at the Woodlands Outdoor residential centre they are actively involved in setting goals and identifying success criteria. The course objectives also included are;

  • Development of resilience, determination and confidence
  • Raising levels of self esteem
  • Managing of feelings and dealing with emotions such as elation, fear and success
  • Increase motivation
  • Developing empathic skills
  • Developing a broader understanding and appreciation of the natural environment

The studenst completed the three peak challenge, Corndu, Pen y fan (886 m) and Cribyn in glorious sunshine on Monday. On Tuesday the group explored two caves, Nedd Fechan and Porth yr Ogof. On Wednesday they completed 8 km on the River Wye in canoes. The climbing wall, Jacobs' ladder, the zip wire and high wire assault course tested the group on Thursday. The gorge scramble, (following the course of a river up through rapids and waterfalls), took place in Sychryd on Friday. The Saturday conservation work took place on the River Usk, from canoes.

We also got the chance to visit the cinema on Wednesday evening and play some bowling on Friday night. I would like to say thanks to Rebecca Winfield who assisted with care of the group over the week.

The students on the trip were;
Miriam Eimannsberger, Linn Solheim Jacobsen, Zachary Ely, Bexultan Seksenbayev, Bernardo Oppermann Lisboa, Ze Zhang, Sergey Gostev, Soe Htet Aung, Andrew Reece, Shi Yang Zhang, Leo Onuchic, Eugen Raot.
