A possible County Schools Final for St. Clare's

The girls' basketball team continued their efforts to qualify for the Oxfordshire Schools County final. Coach Franky Marulanda reports.

St. Helen and St. Katharine 26 vs. St. Clare's 64

As the undefeated St Clare's Girls squad turned up, they were faced with a very unusually long basketball court. Were St Clare's fit enough to run a full game with only 6 players? Immediately the defensive plan became obvious, apply as much pressure under St. Helen's basket to avoid having to run the full length of the court. This tactic worked against Headington School, so it was worth a try.

The ball was tipped and St Clare's took control scoring the first hoops within 12 seconds. Adding loads of pressure under the hoop and on the ball, sending players dribbling the ball to the sides and closing down the middle of the floor worked a treat as St Clare's took control of the game by the end of the first quarter.

Starting players:
Mia Kraus (#13), Lena Fuldaver (#12), Katarina Budin (#6), Magdalena R (#21) and Patrycja Prusiekcka (#23) maintained their defensive stand, as well as placing St Helen under pressure offensively, then Alessia Passamanti (#4) came off the bench to add even more speed and explosiveness to a team that was already up by 15 points.

Scorers:
#4 Alessia Passamanti 4 pts
#6 Katarina Budin 8 pts
#12 Lena Fuldaver 12 pts
#13 Mia Kraus (Captain) 30 pts
#21 Magdalena R 4 pts
#23 Patrycja Prusiecka 6 pts
