College news - Duke of Edinburgh success

Gold Expedition Success

Congratulations to Chunli, Ali, Sven, Kelly and Casper who have all passed their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award exedition element. They were totally self sufficient for 4 days and 3 nights navigating through the wildly wonderful wet and windy Brecon Beacons walking a distance of 65km.

The groups highlights from the expedition were being out in 40 mph gusts of wind near Corn Du, they also stated that Chunli's Chinese chilli sauce helped to perk up their mood during meal times. The low point for everyone apart from Ali who apparently has the most waterproof boots in the world, was having wet feet for the final few days.

Considering the challenging weather conditions and the difficult terrain the students travelled the assessor was very impressed with the groups' team work and enthusiasm throughout. The students now need to make sure they pass the other components of the award to gain their Gold Duke of Edinburgh.
