St. Clare's v Cherwell Volleyball Match
On 8 March, St. Clare's volleyball club faced their first real challenge in a match against Cherwell High School. After multiple victories against both staff and local language school teams our students were eventually defeated in a well balanced encounter. The first set saw a continuous alternation of 1-point advantages for each side, especially thanks to Stefan Thanner and Janez Kosek's brilliant hits, leaving the final points to determine the outcome, when the opposition's team managed to breach a gap in our reception. Even in the second set St. Clare's team hardly missed a win: Liu Yishen excellent serves and setter Magda Rejmoniak coordination allowed a rapid recovery after the initial disadvantage. Despite the the early deficit our students did not give their efforts up, leaving the team with an honourable loss. It is necessary to note that, all in all, after weeks of training, St. Clare's volleyball players managed to come out of an apparently unequal match with their heads held high, each of them giving their best. Watch out for the Staff v Students match in early April. By Valeria MartiniSecond year IB student March
