Pre-IB students perform The Merchant of Venice
Current Pre-IB students rounded off the year by displaying their acting talents today in an abridged version of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice directed by Marzena Kochanska. The performance was brilliantly narrated by Alima Nurmukhamedova whose excellent commentary was a well judged balance between emotion and humour. It was a superb all round performance by the Director, the entire cast and the students involved in organising the props and lighting and the music, particularly given that the students only had two weeks to prepare for the performance. It would be wrong to single out individual performers for praise but Christof Uisk was superb as Shylock, as were Nick Fan as Antonio and Max Mueller as Bossanio. Sarah Peschko gave a stirring performance as Jessica, speaking with heartfelt passion about the dilemma between her love for her Father Shylock and her romantic love for Lorenzo. Lana Estemirova gave a wonderfully thoughtful and humourous portrayal of Portia, the rich heiress. It is extremely pleasing that so many of these talented Pre-IB students will be staying at St. Clare's next year to join the two year IB Diploma course and I very much hope that they will continue to entertain us with such good productions as this. Congratulations and well done to all of those who took part and to those who came along to support and cheer on their friends from the audience.
