Mathematics Distinction
In February Pre-IB students entered the Intermediate Mathematics Challenge run by the UKMT. The United Kingdom Mathematics Trust was founded in 1996 to help with the education of children in mathematics within the UK. The Challenge presents the student with twenty-five multiple choice questions, divided into two sections; the first carrying 5 marks for a correct solution, and the second carrying 6 marks, but a penalty for incorrect answers. Only the top 40% of students taking this challenge get a certificate and Ivan Kochetkov achieved a bronze award, Siao Liu a silver and Tianyou Wang and Bianru Tang achieved gold awards. Tianyou and Bianru were invited to participate in the next level of the competition: Tianyou in the ‘Kangaroo' (honestly!) and Bianru in the Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad. We are very pleased to announce that Bianru Tang achieved a distinction (putting him in the top 25% of 1600 entrants) in the IMOK Olympiad. He receives a certificate, a book, a key ring (!) and a Gold Medal. This represents a considerable mathematical achievement and we would like to congratulate him on this marvellous result.
