Some reasons to choose St. Clare’s for your education!
St. Clare’s has an international student body of over 45 nationalities, which provides a good base for a wide range of cultural views in our classes, activities and boarding houses.
St. Clare’s is a relatively small college with a high teacher: student ratio, so classes are small (8-10 on average) and provide a high level of individual attention and personalised learning.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the Preparatory Diploma Course (PIB) provide challenging programmes of international education which prepare students well for university life.
The comprehensive CAS programme and offer of three IB Arts subjects underline our commitment to a broad education. Service activities form a key part of the CAS (Creativy, Action and Service) programme as exemplified by activities such as KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now), Oxford City Casuals and voluntary work in local charity shops.
Teachers routinely incorporate international issues into their teaching. This is particularly strong within the IB and pre IB languages and humanities teaching. The CAS programme also features activities such as Model United Nations, lectures in Human Rights, International Affairs, Global Perspectives and recently, trips to Northern Ireland.
International Days, the St. Clare’s MUN conference, the room share policy (where first year students must share a room with a student from another country) and the distribution of nationalities across student houses are further examples of the College’s commitment to intercultural understanding.
There is a friendly and informal atmosphere with very positive staff-student relations. Independent thinking and an open exchange of views are encouraged in our classes, activities and boarding houses.
The provision of a large scholarship and bursary programme widens access and 25-30 students are currently in receipt of financial assistance from St. Clare’s.
An experienced, diverse, committed and stable staff body, together with a diverse student body, provide an excellent climate and environment for learning.
