Summer English language courses for teenagers and juniors at St Clares Oxford

Most students in summer live in college houses although some choose to stay in a local homestay. Both options have advantages and the best choice for you depends on your own particular circumstances – as well as the availability.

Living in college

St. Clare’s has a large number of residential houses exclusively for students aged 15-17 – and all within a short distance of the campus.

Living in college means:

  • boys and girls live in separate houses
  • you usually share a room with a student from a different country (but some rooms are singles and some triples)
  • we supply bed linen and towels, and washing machines for personal laundry
  • breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the Dining Room and you can buy snacks from the café throughout the day
  • a house warden lives in the college house overnight and looks after your welfare (NB a safety deposit box is available for valuables.)

Living in a local homestay

Some students prefer to live in a private home with one of our experienced homestay providers – it’s often the best way to learn about life in Oxford.

Living in a homestay means:

  • a single room with your own private space in a private home
  • breakfast and evening meal with your homestay provider and a chance to chat about your day
  • lunch in college on weekdays and your daily bus pass are both included in the course price
  • full immersion into the English way of life and a chance to learn about the country from a local
  • the opportunity to practise your English in social situations and as you travel to and from college every day by bus or on foot
