Careers

The careers and higher education programme (CHE) at St. Clare's is exceptional in both its scope and provision and was judged outstanding in the recent ISI inspection. The college has a dedicated, experienced careers and higher education adviser who is available all year round to assist and support students in their choices for higher education around the world, for careers and for gap years. There is also a specialist adviser for all US applications.

The programme develops students' career management skills by raising their awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses as well as helping them to explore options in education and work. They are taken through the application processes they need and supported to make effective university applications and prepare CVs as required.

Through a range of workshops, tutorials, lectures, visits and discussions, students build skills and knowledge to help them make a well-informed decision about their future and prepare them for decisions that they are likely to face after they leave St. Clare's. Emphasis is placed on helping students to analyse the transferable skills they are developing through their academic studies and through extra curricular activities, and they are encouraged to develop these to maximize their chances and opportunities in life.

Our dedicated Careers and Higher Education Advisor, Melanie Moorhouse, gives extremely helpful and detailed information on:

  • higher education opportunities in the UK, US and elsewhere;
  • careers information;
  • careers and courses related to each IB subject;
  • gap opportunities from 4 weeks to a year long
  • continuous advice and updates on her Careers Blog

St. Clare's is a centre for SAT and BMAT exams; TOEFL, UKCAT and LNAT exams may be taken in Oxford.

I have really enjoyed my time at St Clare’s. The student population is incredibly diverse and you will leave here with friends from every part of the world, and although we do enjoy our free time, there is still a strong working atmosphere which pushes everyone to perform to the best of their abilities. Furthermore, the teachers are all fun and inspire you to work hard in their subjects. It’s a great place to learn, achieve good grades but also to enjoy your last two years before university education.
