Welcome

Andy Rattue - Principal of St Clares Oxford

We welcome Andrew Rattue as the new Principal of St. Clare’s, following Paula Holloway’s retirement at the end of last term. It is a return to Oxford for Andy, having studied English at Brasenose College before a successful teaching career at various schools, including nine years as Headmaster at RGS Worcester. He has lived in Thailand, the US and most recently Spain where he was Headmaster of King’s College, Madrid. He shares views that very much complement St. Clare’s international ethos:

There has never been a more important time for adopting a global perspective on the challenges faced by countries around the world. Our international student body places us in a uniquely privileged position.

St. Clare's is a co-educational, day and boarding, sixth form college located in elegant north Oxford and has been offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma for over 38 years, longer than any other school or college in England. The college has a worldwide reputation for expertise in providing the IB Diploma and embraces internationalism and academic excellence as its core values.

Students from over 40 countries study at St. Clare's, including a significant number of British students. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, with an equal emphasis on hard work and developing personal responsibility. Each student has a Personal Tutor who oversees welfare and progress. St. Clare's has an especially wide range of subjects on offer at higher and standard level and, in addition, teaches literature in over 25 different languages.

Our Pre-IB course provides an excellent preparation for the full IB Diploma. The college also runs an IB Introduction Course in the summer providing an excellent preparation for students about to start the IB in September. St. Clare’s is also authorised to run IB workshops for both new and experienced teachers in co-operation with the IBO.

St. Clare's campus is made up of 28 large Victorian and Edwardian houses to which purpose-built facilities have been added. These include a beautiful library building with over 35,000 volumes, four science laboratories, art and music studios, dining room, a popular student café and wireless facilities in all buildings and houses.

Students live in college houses close to the central campus, under the care of residential staff. St. Clare's also welcomes students from the local area as day students. There is an extensive programme of social, cultural and sporting activities and students are encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities that Oxford provides.
