Develop your scientific skills

The Practical science course is specifically designed for students who want to continue to study science after they are 15. You will be able to develop your practical investigative skills and you will improve the level of your English language in the context of a school laboratory.

Age: 15-17 years old
Level: From upper intermediate (CEF B2) to very advanced (CEF C2)
Start dates: 11 July and 25 July 2021
Course length: 2 weeks
Class size: Maximum 12 students
Lessons (hours): 25 (22.9 hours) Monday to Friday
Tuition Fees: £2,848
Fees include: Tuition, accommodation, meals, travel insurance, activities, sports and 1 excursion per week

Science in Oxford prepares you for further study in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

Scientific academic teaching: Our academic activities focus on a weekly theme around the subjects of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

Develop specialist knowledge: After an initial introduction on practical science and language, our course can be tailored to your needs, as you can select from specialising in Biology, Chemistry or Physics

Prepare for further academic study: You will develop practical investigative skills in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics whilst improving your English language fluency and vocabulary in science

Study environment: You will learn in state-of-the-art laboratories where you will use specialist equipment like data logging machines and microscopes

Laboratory experience: We will introduce observational techniques. You will also learn how to measure, control variables, record results, and evaluate conclusions

Meet practising scientists: Our interactive learning approach includes talks from inspirational guest speakers, who are making advancements in the Scientific field

Academic support: We have a high staff to student ratio, which means that our classrooms are a supportive and nurturing environment

Stimulating excursions to places of scientific interest: We connect the classroom with the academic city of Oxford, so you can become inspired by study visits to Natural History Museum, Pitt Rivers Museum, History of Science Museum, and the Botanical Gardens

Scientific research: You will create a personal research project on an area of scientific interest. We encourage an investigative approach to this project; you will initiate experiments and use your improved language skills and scientific vocabulary to present your findings

Inspiring activities: Our varied study programme enables you to learn more about Oxford and other places nearby, including various World Heritage sites as well as visits to London

Our summer course package for teenagers

Our teenager course prices include tuition, accommodation, meals, insurance, activities, sports and 1 excursion per week. 

Quarantine package for teenagers

We look forward to welcoming you to Oxford this summer. For those that need to quarantine, we have set up 3 quarantine arrival days – 24 June, 01 July and 15 July. These students will need to purchase an additional 10 day quarantine package which includes:

  • 15 hours English & Culture (10 hours live online classes + 5 hours self-study)
  • Access to the residential house garden where you are staying
  • Evening COVID safe activities online
  • Make friends with students in the same bubble
  • Access to protective equipment like face masks and hand sanitisers
  • Accommodation in our college residence
  • Welfare support – daily call or chat with our staff
  • Full board – meals delivered to your room
  • Price for 10 days is £590

After the quarantine period face-to-face teaching resumes. We would like to reassure you that our current precautions have already reduced the risks within the school environment.
