Visa advice for EU and EEA students
We welcome students from all over the world, and offer specialist visa advice for EU and EEA students ahead of your arrival.
Message from Andrew Rattue, Principal
We are a diverse, inclusive international college and we continue to welcome people from across the globe to study here.
It is a priority for us to support EEA students with the visa and immigration advice and support they may need.
We remain faithful to Anne Dreydel’s original vision for St Clare’s and are committed to our twin charitable objectives of advancing international education and understanding. Britain remains an outward-facing, tolerant and friendly country and we are optimistic that St Clare’s will continue to thrive.
For advice about the steps you may need to take in order to study at St Clare’s, please see below. We believe that the new visa and immigration system will be straightforward to use. Please also refer to the most up to date Government guidance.
I look forward to welcoming you in the near future.

EU/EEA nationals in the UK
UK points-based immigration system
UK citizens and non-EU nationals are not affected by post-Brexit immigration changes. However, from 1 January 2021 a new points-based immigration system comes into effect for EU/EEA nationals. Read this guidance from HM government UK points-based immigration system – Introduction for EU students.
EU Settlement Scheme
We advise that all new and existing EEA students studying at St Clare’s apply for the EU Settlement Scheme by 30 June 2021. If you arrive in the UK during the transition period (after Brexit), you are also eligible to apply.
Applicants need to prove their identity, verify their residence, and pass criminal checks. A preliminary decision on your immigration status is given straight after submission and a formal decision is confirmed online a few weeks later. EU Settlement Scheme applications are intended to be simple and straightforward and there is no application fee.
Student route:
Under the ‘student route’ all students (including EEA students) must demonstrate that they:
- Meet the required 70 points outlined in the new points-based system
- Have an offer from an approved educational institution
- Speak English to the required standard
- Be able to support themselves during their studies.
Read this specialist guidance for more information.
