An Opportunity to Learn a Lifelong Sport

Golf has become a popular and rewarding experience for students at St Clare’s, offering a chance to try a sport that, for many, is both intriguing and unfamiliar. This growing interest stems from golf’s unique appeal and the welcoming atmosphere created by CAS Golf Club. Supervised by Lewis Fraser Pre-IB coordinator. Here’s a closer look at what makes golf at St Clare’s such a special activity.

A Welcoming Environment for All Skill Levels

One of the main reasons golf is so popular at St Clare’s is its accessibility. Many students have family members who play, which encourages them to give it a try. Unlike many sports, golf welcomes players of all ages and skill levels, making it an ideal choice for students looking to try something different. Because golf can be played by individuals or as part of a team, it provides flexibility and the chance for students to enjoy the game in various ways. Each student receives lessons from a professional PGA instructor, who tailors sessions to accommodate everyone—from complete beginners learning the basics to seasoned players looking to refine their skills. This supportive setting ensures that everyone has the opportunity to grow at their own pace and feel confident in their abilities.

Anyone can participate. We have lessons with a PGA golf professional and can help beginners to the more advanced players who have played for many years.”  – Lewis Fraser, Pre-IB coordinator

Another unique feature is the handicap system which is a way to compare yourself to other golfers and track your progress, allowing players of different abilities to compete on a level playing field. This inclusivity makes golf a fantastic family sport and a lifelong pursuit. Recognizing that the skills learned now can be enjoyed for a lifetime, students at St Clare’s are eager to master the basics early on.

Weekly Sessions and Special Outings

At St Clare’s, golf sessions are held once a week at the nearby Kirtlington Golf Club. In addition to these regular sessions, students can look forward to weekend outings at least once a term, where they get to play a relaxing nine holes and bond with their peers. These outings offer students a taste of what a day on the golf course entails, combining the excitement of competition with the calmness of the course environment.
