Our TEDx team proudly presented an evening of talks related to the theme

‘Questioning the Norm’.

On Monday 9th December 2024, three final year IB Diploma students at St Clare’s, Oxford hosted this year’s annual TEDx event. Event organisers, students Tina, Amelia and Ava May, put the spotlight on eight selected student speakers, to spark deep discussions in their college community.

The ‘TEDx St Clares Youth’ team proudly presented an evening of talks to give attendees an opportunity to listen to their peers and learn more about the world, based on the theme of ‘Questioning the Norm’. The topics ranged from the importance of saying ‘no’ to how maths could solve global challenges.

Tina, Amelia and Ava May, said:

We live in a world in which we tend to easily conform to others, situations and norms, which makes it hard to challenge reality and question why society works the way it does. Subject areas such as Maths, Psychology, and Art, have different viewpoints towards our reality. Despite different perspectives not often being discussed, it is significantly important to start speaking up one’s points of view to embrace diversity, celebrate difference, and foster open-minded global citizens.’

TEDx is a programme of local, independently-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission, events are led by passionate individuals seeking to research and discover “ideas worth spreading”.
