about St. Clare's::

background:

St. Clare's was founded in 1953 to bring together students from Britain and Europe after the Second World War. Nowadays the College is a truly international community, with around 350 students from over 40 nationalities, aged 16 and above.

location:

The College operates on 2 separate sites in North Oxford, within 1 km of the centre of the city. The College now occupies 25 buildings. The Banbury Road campus is the teaching centre for students taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma and IB preparation courses as well as summer courses for 16+. The Bardwell Road Centre deals solely with adult courses. The residential accommodation is likewise divided into 16+ and 18+ houses.

    The IB Diploma is increasingly recognised as a passport to university in UK and world-wide. Around 100 students begin the Diploma each year at St. Clare's. In addition, pre-IB courses enable students to improve their knowledge of English and of other subjects, before beginning the IB course. The IB Institute operates short revision courses in April and IB introductory courses in summer, and attracts IB students from all over the world.

  • University Foundation Course: ages 18+:

    This 1-year course is for students who have completed secondary school in their own country and wish to prepare for entry into UK Universities. In addition to English, the students specialise in either Social Studies or Business-related subjects, and are sometimes taught alongside native English speakers on the Liberal Arts programme.

  • Liberal Arts Programme: ages 18+:

    St.Clare's has long-standing links with a number of American universities, whose students can opt to earn credits towards their degree on this programme, staying one or two semesters in Oxford.

  • English Language: adult (ages 18+); young adults (ages 16+); summer 16+ and summer juniors (10-16)

    Year round courses are available for adults (18+), including Business English (ages 23+), English For Beginners and Advanced Studies programme for advanced level students for one or two semesters; full range of courses in summer months for young adults (16+), also specialist summer courses.
