Liberal Arts Programme
• A challenging option
• Live and study in Oxford
Why not choose Oxford for your study abroad experience?
Established for over 30 years our Liberal Arts programme is designed to enable visiting undergraduates and gap year students to have a comprehensive study abroad experience while earning 15 to 18 units of transferable credit.
Every year, students from many different nationalities come here to gain access to a first-class education and an exceptional cultural experience.
When you join the Liberal Arts programme, you can expect:
- the very best teaching that meets your academic requirements with transferable credits across a wide range of disciplines
- to be intellectually challenged while receiving the individual support you require
- small seminar classes of 3-12 students
- one-to-one tutorials with your tutor
- to study alongside a genuinely international community of students
- active collaborative learning, directed to instil critical thinking and independent thought
- support and guidance to make full use of the rich resources and opportunities which our Oxford location provides
- a rich and varied programme of extra-curricular activities and excursions allowing you to engage with a genuinely international and diverse community
- to take the opportunity to explore Oxford and the UK with new friends
- travelling to Europe on weekends and during breaks
Students are advised to select 5 courses: each course carries 3 units of credit. They can choose 4 seminar courses taught in small classes (maximum 12 students) and 1 tutorial class. Tutorial classes are similar to the Oxford and Cambridge tutorial method of teaching. Students are taught individually (occasionally in pairs). The tutorial class is a weekly meeting of the student with a tutor; the student is expected to be fully prepared to discuss and debate the assigned readings or topic. The tutorial enables students to develop further their independent study skills.
A wide range of courses is available within the following disciplines:
Art History | Business and Economics | Communication Studies |
Education | English | History |
Interdisciplinary | Language Courses | Liberal Studies |
Mathematics | Philosophy | Political Science |
Psychology | Sociology | Theatre Arts |
Theology & Religious Studies | Visual Arts |
Learn actively, engage fully and experience a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity to study abroad in one of the most celebrated academic cities in the world, Oxford!

What is it like to live here?
Living in Oxford, a city of culture and learning dating back to medieval times, will be an experience you will never forget.
Our campus is the opposite of your student experience at your own university. Often when our students leave they explain with enthusiasm that although it was very different when they first arrived they soon embraced this difference and said that it made them all the more appreciative of their time here.
We offer you the chance to live with other students from around the world not just with other American students from universities like your own. We have 4 houses exclusively for our adults students all an easy walk to the International College at the Bardwell Road Campus. These stylish Victorian and Edwardian homes are located in Summertown, the most elegant part of the city.
Students clearly value living and socialising with students from around the world. Our students enjoy the fact that they do not live in houses with just American students; they can be sharing a room with someone from Italy or Poland, Brazil or Belgium or making dinner for students visiting from other houses. This is all the more enriching and is the whole ethos of our study abroad programme.
