Making traditional bows
Bow making is an example of a CAS project which a group of students proposed. A CAS project is a collaborative enterprise engaging students in one or more of the CAS strands of creativity, activity, and service. By proposing and engaging in a project such as Bow Making students discovered the benefits of teamwork and of achievements realized through an exchange of ideas and abilities.
The Bow Making CAS Project challenged students to show initiative, demonstrate perseverance, and develop skills such as those of cooperation, problem-solving and decision-making.
One of the students reflected; “planning and safety instructions helped me to identify my strength and identify where we could have problems. We planned to make bows from different stages, start the fire using flint and steel, cook marshmallow and sweet bread and of course to shoot arrows from our new bows.”
