accommodation::

general points::

  • St. Clare's has 19 residential houses, 14 of which are for pre-university (IB, pre-IB, EC16+) students
  • houses are supervised by a House Warden or House Manager
  • all accommodation is either in single or double rooms, which are cleaned regularly. Linen and towels are supplied weekly
  • residential houses are a non-smoking environment
  • a programme of trips, events and excursions is organised for all students, including at weekends
  • coin-operated washing machines and dryers are available for laundry
  • house rules exist in all houses, to protect the privacy, security and welfare of all residents

pre-university students::

  • pre-university houses are located within easy walking distance of the College
  • all pre-university students live in College houses: there is no homestay option
  • there are no fixed times for homework or for "lights out": students are encouraged to take responsibility for their study
  • students must be in their rooms by 23.00 (24.00 on Friday/Saturday, possibly 0200 on Saturday - with permission only)
  • weekends away are allowed, but with Warden's and parents' permission

university level / adult students::

Adult houses are located either within 10 minutes' walk of College, or a short bus ride away, and accommodate up to 25 students; where needed, bus passes are provided without additional charge. There are no fixed times for students to return to the house in the evenings; students have their own key.

College rooms can be of "Standard" or "Superior" quality:

  • Standard is usually a twin room (mostly with a wash hand basin) in a shared house/apartment,with shared kitchen and bathroom
  • Superior means a single or twin room with private shower and toilet, and shared kitchen

two options are available:

  1. self-catering: students cook for themselves, or can buy additional meals in College
  2. college house, with meals: meals are included in the overall price, and paid in advance

homestay: private homes located a maximum of 20 minutes' from College; breakfast and dinner provided, linen and towels provided, use of washing machine at no extra charge. St. Clare's is committed to the benefits of residential accommodation, but recognises that a few students may prefer a homestay option. If this is the case, please let us know.

independent accommodation: the Student Services Officer can give some guidance, but the student is responsible for finding his/her own accommodation.
