Programme content
Students select 4 Core courses, plus 1 Tutorial course and 1 Language Tutorial:
The Core Courses are taught in groups of maximum 10 students; tutorials are taught with 1 or 2 students, and require greater reading and preparation.

Core Courses and Tutorials are offered on a range of topics in the following subject areas: English Literature, Communications, History, Social Science, Economics and Business, Philosophy, Religion, Psychology, Mathematics and Art History/Studio Art.

For Tutorial subjects, a level of previous experience in the subject may be required.

Language Tutorials are offered in French, German, Italian and Spanish at 4 levels, from beginner to advanced. Literature of these languages can also be studied, subject to experience. Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Latin and Greek may also be available.

Instead of a Tutorial subject, students may opt for Independent Studies or an Intership; they may pursue a specific subject in depth, or work within a local institution or organisation.

St. Clare's also organises a lecture series each semester, based on a particular theme, and delivered by St. Clare's specialist staff, and also visiting lecturers from other institutions, including Oxford University. Last semester's theme was "Citizenship, Democracy and Diversity". The lecture series gives Liberal Arts students the chance to interact with students from other academic institutions in Oxford.
